Jim Bittermann moderated a discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos

 

Jim Bittermann, a Media Fellow of the World Economic Forum, attended the Forum's annual conference in Davos, Switzerland and moderated a panel discussion focusing on the dramatic decline in public trust of major institutions.

Kathleen Wilson-Chevalier's review of the catalogue Primatice Maître de Fontainebleau, published for the exhibition organized at the Louvre in 2004/2005 under the direction of Dominique Cordellier, has appeared in the Bulletin de l'Association des Historiens de l'Art Italien (2005, n. 11, pp. 160-162).

 

 
 

Steven Ekovich participated at the conference "Camus, le terrorisme, la conscience" organized at the French Senate

 

At the beginning of February Steven Ekovich analyzed President Bush’s State of the Union Message on French television. On February 27 he was a member of a panel "Faut-il renoncer à comprendre le terrorisme pour éviter de le justifier?" with Morad El-Hattab (philosopher and writer) and Ely Karmon (Director of Research at the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism), moderated by Elisabeth Schemla (journalist and founder of www.proche-orient.info ). The panel was part of a conference organized at the French Senate entitled "Camus, le terrorisme, la conscience." Participants included Christian Poncelet, President of the Senate; Ana Palacio, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain; François Zimeray, former European Deputy; Marco Pannella, European Deputy and founder of the Parti Radical Transnational; Jacky Mamou, Honorary President of Doctors of the World; Pilar Rahola, writer and former Spanish Deputy; Mithal Al-Alousi, founder of the Iraqi Democratic National Party.

Jérôme Game was invited by France Culture to give an interview on contemporary British poetry for the program “La nuit la poésie” which was broadcast on 6 February. The interview focused on experimental poetry and addressed issues of avant-gardist literary practices in both Britain and France.

 

 
 

Hall Gardner was invited to speak on the panel "Coping with International Terrorism" for the conference 'Transatlantic Security Dialogue'

 

Hall Gardner was invited by the Istituto Affari Internazionali, with the support of the German Marshall Fund, to speak on the panel "Coping with International Terrorism" for the conference Transatlantic Security Dialogue held in Brussels, 28 February. Other panelists invited to speak included, Jim Cloos (Director in charge of Transatlantic Relations, Latin America, Human Rights, United Nations and Counter-terrorism, General Secretariat of the EU Council of the Ministers) and Thierry Legendre (Policy Adviser-Policy Planning Unit, Office of the Secretary General, NATO). Stefano Silvestri (President, IAI) was Chair of the panel. Hall was interviewed live on BBC World News Radio on 21 November on events in the Middle East.

Marielle Gorissen-van Eenige just published a chapter on "Intelligence testing" in the Dutch Handbook Psychodiagnostics (De Ruiter, Hildebrand, eds.), published by Harcourt. The chapter describes the different types of intelligence tests and deals with the logic, application and limitations of intelligence testing in clinical psychodiagnostics.

 

 
 

'Bright Lights Film Journal' published an article by Jayson Harsin

 

Jayson Harsin's "Von Trier's Brechtian Gamble: On Manderlay" appears in the February/March issue of the on-line Bright Lights Film Journal. He is currently at work on a book called The Rumor Bomb. In the book, he theorizes and empirically analyzes the changing contemporary American political aesthetics and citizenship by looking at interlocking changes in political marketing through branding, news values and market pressures, and the pressure of speed on political deliberation and audience reception. Yudhishthir Raj Isar was at the Candido Mendes University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 9-10 January, taking part in a workshop entitled ‘Culture, Security and Sustainable Development’ organized under the auspices of the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation. Hosted by Rector Candido Mendes, the workshop brought together contributors to a forthcoming volume tentatively called Culture, security and sustainable development to be brought out in honor of the late Swedish anthropologist and development activist Karl-Eric Knutsson. Isar’s chapter is entitled ‘From Culture to Conflict and Back.’

The special issue on Attention Aware System of the journal Computers in Human Behavior guest edited by Claudia Roda and Julie Thomas was published as Volume 22, N.4 2006. Some of Roy Rosenstein's translations of troubadour lyric have been reprinted in the Norton Anthology of World Masterpieces, the Norton Anthology of World Literature, and now the 2006 Norton Anthology of Western Literature. His translations of medieval poets have also been commissioned for or reprinted in CD booklets like those accompanying Richard Coeur de Lion (Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud and Centre de Musique Médiévale de Paris) and Distant Love (Harmonia Mundi).
